Close Call for Tipsy Reveller

SHE WAS full of the Christmas party spirit — and it nearly cost her her life.
Clearly the worse for drink, she stepped from a train after a night out, took a tumble and ended up trapped between the platform edge and the carriage.
Tragedy was averted thanks to other passengers who stopped the train from moving off and pulled her free.
CCTV footage of the incident has now been released at the unnamed woman’s request so that the police can warn others of the dangers of overdoing it during the Christmas party season.
The pictures show the young blonde wearing a gold cowboy hat as she gets off a train at Barnsley station in Yorkshire, England.
At first she seems fine and steady on her high heels. But then, as she looks for something in her handbag, she staggers backwards.
She loses her footing and falls to the ground — seemingly so drunk she cannot stop herself rolling into the gap between the carriage and platform.
After her rescue she was taken to the hospital with cuts and bruises.
She was later cautioned for being drunk and disorderly.
The operation to rescue the woman was so quick that trains were only delayed for 20 minutes.
The British Transport Police ( BTP) have posted the video on YouTube to remind youngsters to know their alcohol limits and to look after each other during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities.
Inspector Graham Bridges, of the BTP, said: “ This woman was lucky. Had it not been for the other passengers, we could have been dealing with potentially serious injuries.”

Mechanics

1. A piece of wire is bent in the shape of a parabola y = kx^2 (y–axis vertical) with a bead of mass m on it. The
bead can slide on the wire without friction. It stays at the lowest point of the parabola when the wire is at
rest. The wire is now accelerated parallel to the x–axis with constant acceleration a. The distance of the
new equilibrium position of the bead, where the bead can stay at rest with respect to the wire, form the y–
axis is

2.A uniform rod of length L and mass M is pivoted at the centre. Its two ends are attached to two springs of equal spring constants k. The springs are fixed to rigid supports as shown in the figure, and the rod is free to oscillate in the horizontal plane. The rod is gently pushed through a small angle θ in one direction and released. The frequency of oscillation is

3.Two small particles of equal masses start moving in opposite directions from a point A in a horizontal circular orbit. Their tangential velocities are v and 2v, respectively, as shown in the figure. Between collisions, the particles move with constant speeds. After making how many elastic collisions, other than that at A,
these two particles will again reach the point A ?

4.The mass M shown in the figure oscillates in simple harmonic motion with amplitude A. The amplitude of the point P is

5.A rod of mass m and length is hinged to its one end and held vertical. A point mass m is attached to the other end, is allowed to rotate about the hinge. The velocity of the particle when rod becomes horizontal is:

6. A uniform rod A B of length L is hinged at one end A. The rod is kept in the horizontal position by a mass less string tied to point B as shown in figure. If the string is cut, the initial angular acceleration of the rod will be:

7.A straight bar, of mass 15 kg and length 2 m, at rest on a frictionless horizontal surface, receives an instantaneous impulse of 7.5 Ns perpendicular to the bar. If the impulse is applied at the centre of mass of the bar, the energy transferred is:
8. A satellite of mass m is orbiting the earth in a circular path of radius r with velocity v. How much energy is required to take the satellite from an orbit of radius r to one of radius 3 r :
9. In figure, a block slides down a frictionless inclined plane and a sphere rolls without sliding down a ramp of the same angle . The block and sphere have the same mass, start from rest at point A, and descend to point B
If work done by gravitational force on the block is W1 and that on sphere is W2, then:
10. In figure, a block slides down a friction less inclined plane and a sphere rolls without sliding down a ramp of the same angle . The block and sphere have the same mass, start from rest at point A, and descend to point B
In the previous problem, if v1 is the speed of block at B and v2 is the speed of sphere at the same position, then:
11.  A block of mass of 1 kg slides down a curved track that is one quadrant of a circle of radius 1 m. Its speed at the bottom is 2 m/s. The work done by the frictional force is:
12.An object is attached to a vertical spring and slowly lowered to its equilibrium position. This stretches the spring by x. If the same object is attached to the same vertical spring but permitted to fall suddenly, the spring stretches by:

13.A body of mass m accelerates uniformly from rest to velocity v1 in time t1. The instantaneous power delivered to the body is:

14.A mass of M kg is suspended by a weightless string. The horizontal force that is required to displace it until the string makes an angle of  with the initial vertical direction is:
15.The potential energy of 1 kg particle free to move along the x-axis is given by J. The total mechanical energy of the particle is 2 J then, the maximum speed in (m/s) is:
16.Two springs  A and B are identical except that A is stiffer than B, i.e., KA > KB.
The springs are stretched by equal amount of force. If WA and WB are the work done on them respectively then:
17.A particle of mass 4m which is at rest explodes into three fragments. Two of fragments, each of mass m are found to move with a speed v each in mutually perpendicular directions. The total energy released in the process is:
18.A ball  of mass 1 kg, moving with speed of 12 m/s, collides obliquely and elastically with another ball B which was initially at rest. Ball A then moves off at right angles to its direction with a speed of 5m/s. The momentum of ball B after collision is:
19. The rear block moves with a speed of 2 m/s towards the front block kept at rest on smooth surface. The spring is massless and having force constant 50 N/m. The maximum compression of the spring if each block is of 1 kg mass:
20. A ball is dropped on smooth inclined plane and is observed to move horizontally after the impact. The coefficient of restitution between plane and ball is e.
The inclination  is:

Two Days Ago it Was a Fairy Tale....Now its a Dream for RCB

RCB reach the final

Well, one says, magic is not possible, some say, luck may shine on you once, cricketers say you chase down a 200 target in 20 overs and hit a last ball six once in an era, but all these speculations were cornered by another spirited run chase by Bangalore. Well two days ago they won a thriller, yesterday they won an action flick, first powered by Warner Tsunami and then by Gayle Storm and Kohli Strong Winds.

Well both Kohli and Gayle played their hearts out
Well, RCB, are on a roll as they stormed their way into the grand finale of CLT20 2011, first time for the domestic chokers. I call RCB chokers because in previous editions of IPL as well as Clt20 they reach the semis or finals but they lose, disappointing their fans.

But this time the story seems to be different for the team owned by business tycoon Mallya. Well the team headed by Vettori has played some spirited cricket and won the lost matches. Well yesterday to 'Mr Dependable' Kohli produced a gem supported by a rather imperial and dominating innings by the man '333'
whom we also call the Gayle Force.

WARNER Hits another 123*
David Warner is questioning the selectors again and again for his exclusion from the Kangaroos team. Being the first player to score two back to back centuries in T20 cricket and also becoming the highest run getter in a single edition of Champions League Warner has proved his mettle. Look at his stupendous average of 189 with a strike rate nearly touching 200. Warner Tsunami is becoming more and more sever as he dosen't get out only. Well is he the next Gilly (Gilchrist) ?

But still RCB have won another dream game, though in this game they won comfortably despite losing Dilshan early. Virat Kohli is again pushing the doors for his inclusion in the test team, as he is playing some really superb innings. Main thing I like about his batting is that he likes to finish the game once he has got a start. He has matured over the years just like Warner who earlier just played cricket based on instinct.

Well West Indies Board doesn't want Gayle and Pollard, Can BCCI adopt them? Just imagine Gayle and Sehwag opening....well bowlers would say we give up...

And also thank God, Warner and Gayle don't play for the same team in Big Bash....otherwise the bowl would be more outside the stadium rather than inside...
These were my views, please comment below so I can hear your views...you can jsut select Name/URL and if you don't wanna give URL its your wish, but please give your name...
Is Warner the next Gilchrist?
Should Kohli play the tests?
What will be your dream opening pair for a team?
Who should play the final of CLT20 2011 with Mumbai?

Newton's Laws of Motions

Newton gave three laws governing the motion of the bodies:-
1.       First Law: A body continues to be in its state of rest or uniform motion along a straight line, unless it is acted upon by some external force to change the state.
2.       Second Law: The rate of change of linear momentum of a body is directly proportional to the external force applied on the body, and this change takes place in the direction of the force applied.
3.       Third Law: To every action, there is always an equal and opposite reaction.
NEWTON’S FIRST LAW OF MOTION OR LAW OF INERTIA:
  • If the net external force on the body is zero, its acceleration is zero. Acceleration can be non-zero only if there is a net external force on the body.

Inertia: Inability of a body to change its state of rest or state of uniform m otion along a staright line is called inertia of the body.
NEWTON’S SECOND LAW OF MOTION AND LINEAR MOMENTUM:
  • Linear Momentum: The product of mass and velocity for moving body is known as momentum. It is a vector quantity whose direction is same as that of velocity and is denoted by P.

Momentum=mass × velocity (Kg m/s)
 P = mv
The rate of change of linear momentum of a body is directly proportional to the external force applied on the body, and this change takes place in the direction of the force applied.
Since mass is constant, (). We can therefore write the following:
  • F= MA

NEWTON’S THIRD LAW OF MOTION:
Force never occurs singly in nature. Forces always occur in pairs as a result of mutual interation betwwen two bodies.
  1.     A single isolated force is an impossibility
  2.   The two forces involved in any interaction between the two bodies are often called as action and reaction pairs.

Warner Tsunami, Cyclone and Earthquake hit Chennai

Warner Tsunami, Cyclone and Earthquake hit Chennai
Warner smashing the ball

Well, we are all familiar with the Gayle Storm, Mccullum Bomb, Sehwag Hurricane, Dhoni Dhamaka and Pathan Thunder.
Chris Gayle hitting a six

But one innings that comprised of all these “Natural Disaters” was produced yesterday night by none other than the Australian chucky opener David Warner. It was one of the best innings of T20 I have seen leave apart Mccullum’s 158*.
Mccullum plays one handed scoop

But what Warner had produced yeaterday was a one man show ripping Chennai apart right from the word. On a track where scoring 100 was also difficult the Blues scored 200:- courtesy Warner. He never let the bowler’s to settle down. He used the switch hit to good effect and scored almost 30 runs from that particluar stroke. Rest 104 runs involved power packed hitting down the ground as well as some well timed strokes through the covers or straight down the ground. He had hit Bravo for 108 m six, highest in the Clt20 so far. But what Warner has done is that he has reshaped the batting in 20-20 cricket. He played himself in and then in the last 10 overs took some ordinary bowling by the Super Kings to a task. The main part of his innings I liked was that he played for 20 overs and there was not even one mis hit. He was striking the ball wherever he wanted to.
Pietersen invented the switch hit

I think now Kevin Pietersen, the inventor of the switch hit stroke will have to take training from David to how to hit the stroke in the gap and over the ropes no matter what surface are you playing or which bowler are you facing. Well one can say it was just Warner Special Day as he even took two catches and helped in an important run out. I feel if he had come to bowl a couple of overs, even then he would have taken a wicket or a two. Warner’s 134 of 67 balls was only the second ton in clt20 history. Warner has come a long way since the last two years. Earlier the young lad used to just hit the ball on instinct but yesterday’s inning showed how mature he has become. I believe he should open with Watson for the Australians in ODI and 20-20. His national call is not far now, seeing his yesterday’s innings. He is a jubilant fielder and one of the best in Blues sides, thus it is an extra feature of him which makes him more special. Well Warner if you can bat on a low and slow pitch and time the ball as you were doing yesterday you are getting into the leagues of Sehwag and Gayle, on who the track and the bowler has no effect. They just know when definition, i.e. hit the ball as it comes, no matter come what may.
Dear readers I would like to ask,
Whether it was a special knock by David Warner or was it just a poor performance by Chennai Bowlers and anyone could have hit them on the day?
Please I would welcome your comments below:

Picked for Oscars but no money to promote

TALK about Indian films, and the first thing that comes to mind is Bollywood. Money, fame, glamour, it’s got everything to offer. But beyond the razzle and dazzle of the spotlight there’s another industry which is fighting a lonely battle for survival. These are the small scale, low- budget regional films, often made by independent filmmakers.
Money might breed money but it can’t always guarantee success. Thus, despite a lack of financial muscle, there are times when regional films triumph over Hindi movies.
Director Salim Ahmed has produced the Movie
Malayalam movie Adaminte Makan Abu is one such example. Produced and directed by Salim Ahmed, the film won four national awards — best film, actor, photography and background music — and has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars in the foreign language category.
But the Oscar selection is proving to be a bigger headache for the debutant director than that he had faced making the film, which cost him nearly ` 1 crore. Ahmed, a small time videographer at a remote village in Kannur district of Kerala, is now finding it difficult to arrange funds for promoting his film in the US for the Oscar jury. He needs at least ` 2 crore and is running from pillar to post but with little to show for his efforts.
His effort to raise funds somewhat mirrors that of the central character in his film in which an old man, who sells attar ( perfume), dreams of making enough money to go on a pilgrimage to Mecca. Despite all his efforts, he fails to save the money needed for the trip.
“ Before the Oscar nomination, we will have to conduct a lot of promotional events such as screening the film in the US to mobilise support. A minimum of six screenings have to be arranged for the jury members,” Ahmed said.
“ I cannot borrow money because even if the film gets a nomination, it does not bring home any cash.” The print has already landed in the US and Ahmed is expected to be there by the middle of this month. Ahmed had turned to all sections for help, but faced rejection from every quarter. The Film Fed- eration of India has also appealed to the Union information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni for financial help, but she is yet to respond.
Back home, the Malayalam film industry, controlled by superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal, has even refused to acknowledge the film’s selection for the Oscars, while the state cultural affairs ministry too is reluctant to help.
The team behind the award winning film is now pinning it hopes on the efforts of Salim Kumar, who played the lead role. He has turned to Bollywood star Aamir Khan for help.
“ I hope I can convince him about the problems low- budget filmmakers face in promoting movies,” Kumar said.

A Pill A Day Will Keep The Gray Away

The likes of George Clooney, Phillip Schofield and Helen Mirren make going grey look distinguished, if not downright glamorous.
George Clooney can hide those white hairs of his
But whether it’s a sprinkling of salt- and- pepper in your 30s, or a full head of platinum in your 40s or 50s, most of us are not quite ready to embrace the ‘ silver fox’ look too early in life.
Penelope Cruz
Now scientists suggest that holding back the process could soon be as easy as popping a vitamin pill. They are working on a medication which, when taken daily, could let you hold on to your own naturally coloured locks as long as possible.
The breakthrough comes after more than a decade of research at the laboratories of cosmetics firm L’Oreal. The global market for hair colouring is worth an estimated £ 8billion and the company — the world’s largest in cosmetics and hair care — hopes to become the first to come up with the lucrative anti- grey formula. Based on a secret fruit extract, the pill would be inexpensive and designed to be used in the same way as a daily dietary supplement.
Bruno Bernard, head of hair biology at L’Oreal, said: “ Ideally you would take it for your whole life, but realistically we’d encourage people to start using it before their hair goes grey because we don’t think it can reverse the process once it has started.
“ We have a watertight proof of concept, and we think it will have a market among men as well as women.” If the formula, which is being developed in secret, is proven to be effective, it could earn the company billions.
Between 2008 and last year, there was a 50 per cent increase in the number of men visiting hair salons to dye their hair, a study commissioned by L’Oreal revealed. In Britain, sales of home hair colouring kits have risen by a third in the past three years.
According to market research firm Mintel, more than two- thirds of women colour their hair.
Grey hairs usually begin to appear after the age of 30, when human hair cells begin to succumb to a process called oxidative stress, which makes them more susceptible to toxins. The pill would work by offering protection against this process.
Hair pigment cells die with age due to the lack of a protective enzyme called tyrosinase- related protein 2 ( TRP- 2), the researchers explained. Rather than creating a synthetic drug to mimic TRP- 2, the scientists instead screened thousands of naturally occurring compounds, and eventually found one in a fruit — which they have not named.
Safety trials are under way, but the product’s mechanism will not be unveiled until the next international investigative dermatology meeting in 18 months.
Since going grey can take decades, it could be many years before it is clear how effective the product is. Des Tobin, professor of cell biology at the University of Bradford’s Centre for Skin Science, said: “ With people living longer and working longer, they are in the grey zone for longer”.

Indian Team's Selection for Home Series Against England...

The Team goes as follows:

  • MS Dhoni (captain)
  • Manoj Tiwary
  • Ajinkya Rahane
  • Gautam Gambhir
  • Parthiv Patel
  • Suresh Raina
  • Virat Kohli
  • Ravindra Jadeja
  • R Ashwin
  • Rahul Sharma
  • Varun Aaron
  • Umesh Yadav
  • Praveen Kumar
ASHWIN HAS BEEN INCLUDED IN THE SQUAD
Well I truly am very impressed by the selectors for selecting such a great team, giving youngsters a chance to prove their worth. Bhajji's exclusion was not a surprise, seeing his recent poor performances. There are more than three players who haven't played a single one dayer. Here inclusion of Ashwin is a boost for the youngster as he didn't get many chances to prove how stupendous player he is.

Rahane is going through a good phase and he has got runs under his belt both in domestic and international arena. I think Varun Aaron should have been given a chance in England but its good to be late than never, so play him right from the start.
Rahane gets one more chance
Rahul Shrama, came as surprise and according to me, Ojha should have been given a go.
Nehra has been neglected for first two odi's
The Board has done a foolish thing by not including Nehra in the squad. He is India's premier bowler after Zaheer and he should have been given a chance. Also he declared himself fit and his performances throughout the WC had been good. Another player which I believe should have been played was Iqbal Abdulla. The young lad has been impressive with his bowling.
Abdulla plays for KKR

In all its a good team with many youngsters, but still it could have been much better.
