SHE WAS full of the Christmas party spirit — and it nearly cost her her life. Clearly the worse for drink, she stepped from a train after a night out, took a tumble and ended up trapped between the platform edge and the carriage. Tragedy was averted thanks to other passengers who stopped the train from moving off and pulled her free. CCTV footage of the incident has now been released at the unnamed woman’s request so that the police can warn others of the dangers of overdoing it during the Christmas party season. The pictures show the young blonde wearing a gold cowboy hat as she gets off a train at Barnsley station in Yorkshire, England. At first she seems fine and steady on her high heels. But then, as she looks for something in her handbag, she staggers backwards. She loses her footing and falls to the ground — seemingly so drunk she cannot stop herself rolling into the gap between the carriage and platform. After her rescue she was taken to the hospital with cuts and bruises. She was later cautioned for being drunk and disorderly. The operation to rescue the woman was so quick that trains were only delayed for 20 minutes. The British Transport Police ( BTP) have posted the video on YouTube to remind youngsters to know their alcohol limits and to look after each other during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities. Inspector Graham Bridges, of the BTP, said: “ This woman was lucky. Had it not been for the other passengers, we could have been dealing with potentially serious injuries.” |
